So it’s February already and around 80% of us who made new years resolutions will have given up by the end of next week. Are you going to be one of them? If you’re struggling to stick to the promises you made to yourself to lose weight, get fitter or just go to the gym more then read on…

There are many reasons why people don’t stick to the promises they’ve made themselves and sometimes there are genuine reasons for giving up but for the majority it’s something that can easily be addressed so here’s a few helpful ideas to help you identify and understand how to avoid the pitfalls that lead to health goal failures.

Focus on a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix. Firstly, you have to be prepared to make any necessary changes to your life that will benefit you and help you achieve your goals.

Clearly define your goal and ensure it’s measureable. Set short term goals along the way. Any goal is possible but you have to make sure you are giving yourself realistic parameters for achieving it.

Be strategic, follow a programme designed to meet your specific goals and track your progress every session with the aim of improving week on week.

Question your motives. Superficial goals may lose their appeal after endless weeks of diet and exercise. Instead, try framing fitness as a direct path to health and happiness. Ask yourself: Why have I set these goals? What do I want to achieve? And don’t forget, regular exercise has unexpected benefits including lowering cholesterol, boosting overall energy, and even increasing happiness.

Get organised. As the saying goes; fail to prepare, prepare to fail! Allocate enough time for training, prepare your meals in advance when you know you have a busy day so there’s no excuses.

Get support. In the gym environment, personal trainers are the most obvious and easily accessible professional support available. Many people feel that they don’t need a trainer to just get a bit fitter or healthier, and for some that might be true. However, we have to also consider that a trainer offers knowledge, experience and -most importantly – accountability, both in terms of having someone you won’t want to let down and as a financial investment.

Here at Tuff Training we have a fantastic team of Personal Trainers who can help you with your fitness journey from planning to delivery. If you would like a no obligation, free consultation you can call, email or message us on our website or Facebook page.

Excuses don’t get results!
